Bishop IRINEU Attends Celebrations for the "National Day" of Romania

On Wednesday, December 1, 2004, His Grace, Bishop IRINEU, in Romania for the funeral of his mother and grandmother, traveled to the city of Alba Iulia at the invitation of His Eminence, Archbishop ANDREI for the celebration of the "National Day" of Romania.
The deacon proclaims the Holy Gospel.
The hierarchs concelebrated the Divine Liturgy in the famous "Reunification Cathedral."
Built between the years 1921-1923, the cathedral has been the site of many historic events, including the coronation of King Ferdinand in 1922.
His Grace, Bishop IRINEU commemorates the Romanian and American people, especially those who have fought and continue to fight for freedom.

The clergy receive the Eucharist from His Grace, Bishop IRINEU.

His Eminence, Archbishop ANDREI welcomed Bishop IRINEU and offered his best wishes for the Romanian Orthodox Church in North America.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the hierarchs proceeded outside for a Service of Thanksgiving in remembrance of the "National Day" holiday.
It was on December 1, 1918, that the National Assembly which took place in Alba Iulia proclaimed the basic principles for the creation of a united Romanian state through the reunification of Transylvania with Romania.
Tens of thousands of citizens came to celebrate the national holiday.
