The 75th Anniversary of Saints Peter & Paul Church

October 9-10, 2004

On the weekend of October 9-10, 2004, His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL and His Grace, Bishop IRINEU visited Saints Peter & Paul Church in Dearborn Heights, on the occasion of the celebration of the parish's 75th Anniversary.  They were greeted Saturday evening by children with flowers and parish council president Thomas Moga with the traditional bread and salt.
Before proceeding into the church, His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL blessed the mosaic icon and panels which were newly-installed in the baptistry area.
Rev Dn Horaţiu Balanean, parish deacon, and Rev Dn Sabin Pop intone one of the litanies as His Eminence looks on from the throne.

The responses were led by a group of singers from the Synaxis Men's Choir under the direction of John E Lazar.
"Let us complete our evening prayer to the Lord."
Bishop IRINEU offers a few words at the end of the service, observing the importance of this significant milestone in the history of the parish.
His Grace offers icon cards bearing the image of the patrons of the church, Saints Peter & Paul.
Following the service, hundreds of parishioners and guests attended a buffet reception and dance in the social hall.
The ladies of the parish prepared all the food for the buffet and sweets tables.

On Sunday, October 10, 2004, the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated.  Here, the deacons lead Alin Macarie forward to be blessed as Reader and Subdeacon.
"Glory to God in the highest heaven and peace on earth to men who enjoy His favor."
The new subdeacon remains in front of the iconostas for most of the service, until just before his ordination.
"Lord, Lord, look down from heaven; visit this vine, protect what Your own right hand has planted."
One of the parish cantors, Mircea Vasiu, receives the blessing from His Eminence before reading the Epistle.
Rev Fr Romey Rosco, parish priest, and Rev Fr Alexandru Partioc, attached.
Bishop IRINEU makes his commemorations at the Holy Gifts.
The parish choir, under the direction of Teodor Vingarzan, led the responses.
"Let us, who mystically portray the cherubim and sing the thrice-holy hymn to the life-creating Trinity, now lay aside all earthly cares."

"You brought us from nonexistence into existence, and when we fell, You again raised us up to heaven and bestowed on us Your kingdom which is to come."

"Holy!  Holy!  Holy!  Lord of Sabaoth!  Heaven and earth are full of Your glory!  Hosanna in the highest!  Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest!"
The new Subdeacon Alin was then ordained into the Holy Diaconate by His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL.
"O Master of all men, who have made worthy this man to enter the work of a deacon, by the visitation upon him by Your Holy and Life-giving Spirit, fill him with all faith, love, power and holiness."

Following the Divine Liturgy, more than 500 parishioners and guests attended the Anniversary Banquet in the social hall.
 
Janet Clarey, 75th Anniversary Committee Chairperson, addresses the gathering and thanks everyone who contributed to the success of the events of the weekend.
Thomas Moga reflects on the mission of the parish, calling to mind the past and future generations.
As part of his presentation, Archbishop NATHANIEL presented a Gramata (special citation) from the Holy Synod of The Orthodox Church in America, signed by all the bishops, to Fr Rosco and the parish in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary.
After the banquet, some of the women wearing traditional Romanian costumes pose
for a picture by the parish's new cross monument (troiţa) in front of the church
with His Grace, Bishop IRINEU.
