Feast of Saint Polycarp Celebrated at Vatra Romānească
Grass Lake, Michigan
February 23, 2005

On Wednesday, February 23, 2005, a group from The Ascension of the Lord Monastery in Detroit, Michigan, traveled to Vatra Romānească to join the hierarchs and chancery staff for the Divine Liturgy in celebration of the feast of Saint Polycarp.  It was four years ago this day that Bishop (then Archimandrite) IRINEU arrived in the United States with a group of monks to establish the monastery in Detroit.
His Grace IRINEU celebrated the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy in the Saint Mary "Pioneers" Downstairs Chapel with His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL in attendance.  A Memorial Service (Parastas) was also held in memory of His Grace, Bishop POLICARP (Moruşca), the first hierarch of the Romanian Orthodox faithful in North America.
