Patron Feast Celebration of Saint Raphael of Brooklyn Church

On Sunday, February 27, 2005, His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Raphael of Brooklyn Church in Detroit on the occasion of the Patron Feast Celebration of the parish.

His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL is greeted by Dr Charles Pappas, vice president of the parish council, with the traditional bread and salt.

His Eminence is vested in the middle of the church by the subdeacons.
Immediately prior to the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence blessed Mr Laike Misikir to be a subdeacon for the parish.
The parish has relics of the Holy 40 Martyrs of Sebaste available for the faithful to venerate.
The Hierarchal Divine Liturgy begins.
"For the peace from above and for the salvation of our souls, let us pray to the Lord."

"May the Lord God remember those who have fallen asleep in the Lord: our forefathers, grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and all our relatives, each by his own name, in His kingdom."
The newly-blessed subdeacon remains in front of the iconostas until the singing of the Hymn to the Birthgiver of God (Axion).
"We offer You Your own of Your own, in behalf of all and for all."
"Changing them by Your Holy Spirit."  "Amen. Amen. Amen."

The deacons prepare the chalice for the distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful.
"The servant of God partakes of the precious and holy Body and Blood of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins and for everlasting life."
Inside the church is a small chapel dedicated to the saints of North America.
His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL offers the dismissal.
"May He who rose from the dead, Christ our True God....have mercy on us and save us, for He is good and the Lover of Mankind."
Immediately following the Divine Liturgy was a festive luncheon for those in attendance.
Fr Leo welcomes the parishioners and guests, and reflects on the life and work of the parish.
