The Ordination of Subdeacon Ioan Iosif Bogdan
into the Holy Diaconate

On Sunday, September 18, 2005, the Sunday after the Elevation of the Holy Cross, His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint George Cathedral in Southfield/Detroit.  During the Divine Liturgy, he ordained Subdeacon Ioan Iosif (John) Bogdan into the Holy Diaconate.
The clergy await His Eminence NATHANIEL at the entrance of the Cathedral.  Among the guest clergy for this event were Dn John's father, V Rev Fr Iosif Bogdan, and brother, Rev Fr Vasile Bogdan, who traveled from Romania to attend his wedding and ordination.
"Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us."
At the High Place during the reading of the Epistle.
Hdn Calinic (Berger) censes the Holy Table prior to the reading of the Gospel.
"Let us, who mystically portray the cherubim and sing the thrice-holy hymn to the life-creating Trinity, lay aside every earthly care."
The candidate washes His Eminence's hands prior to the Great Entrance.
"May the Lord God remember those who have brought these holy gifts and those for whom they have been brought, the living and the dead, in His kingdom."
The candidate is lead by the deacons to the Royal Doors where the Archbishop blesses him on the head before entering the Holy Altar.
"O holy martyrs, who contended valiantly and were crowned, intercede with the Lord for us that He have mercy on our souls."
The candidate prostrates himself before the hierarchs after each encircling the Holy Table.
Rev Dns Sabin Pop (Cathedral Deacon) and Cosmin Antonescu lead
the candidate around the Holy Table.
"O Lord our God, who by your foreknowledge sent down the gift of your Holy Spirit upon those who are ordained by your inscrutable power to be your servants and to minister your spotless mysteries..."
"He is worthy!"
"Vrednic este!"
The hierarchs and deacons vest the new deacon in view of the faithful.
The new deacon receives the Precious Body of our Lord.
The Communion of the clergy.
The Deacon John receives the precious Blood of our Lord."
The new deacon observes the preparation of Holy Communion for the faithful.
Dn John intones his first litany, the Litany of Thanksgiving.
Rev Fr Vasile Bogdan is invited by His Eminence to preach at the end of the Liturgy.

After the Divine Liturgy, all were invited to the cultural center where a "clatite" (crepes) breakfast was prepared by the ladies auxiliary to benefit Romanian orphans and Project Mexico.
