Photo: AP/Dita AlangkaraGrass Lake MI [ROEA Chancery]    In response to the tragic natural disaster which has taken place in Southern Asia, His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL urges parishes, clergy and faithful of the Episcopate to do what they can to support the international relief efforts taking place there.  “It is this kind of tragedy that brings all people together, regardless of faith or politics, in compassion and caring for the sick and suffering,” stated His Eminence.  “Our heart goes out especially to the many children left now without parents.”

The fourth largest earthquake in recorded history, which triggered enormous tidal waves, has wreaked major destruction across nearly a dozen countries including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Burma, Malaysia, and elsewhere.  The death toll across the region is now estimated to reach over 100,000 souls.

The International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is joining with its partner Church World Services (CWS) to respond immediately by sending shipments of medical and shelter supplies to be distributed by CWS disaster response teams there.

Donations for IOCC’s “Asia Disaster Response” may be sent to IOCC, PO Box 630225, Baltimore MD 21263-0225.  Donations may also be made online at www.iocc.org or by calling toll-free 1-877-803-IOCC (4622).
