The Second Meeting of the Romanian Orthodox Hierarchs of
Western Europe and America

Grass Lake MI [ROEA Chancery]    Hierarchs of Romanian jurisdictions in Western Europe and North America will meet here in the United States during the week of May 9-16, 2005.  The hierarchs gathered last year in Paris and will be hosted this year by The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America of The Orthodox Church in America.

"Last year we had very fruitful discussions” said His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL.  “We discovered that although Orthodoxy is a way of life and can be lived in every circumstance, there are some differences between living the Orthodox Faith in traditionally Orthodox countries and those where Orthodoxy is not so prevalent.  This meeting helps us to exchange our experiences so that we can better serve the spiritual needs of the thousands of faithful in our respective jurisdictions.”

Several of the hierarchs will arrive in New York on Monday, May 9, where they will be met by His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL and hosted for dinner by His Beatitude, Metropolitan HERMAN at the Chancery of The Orthodox Church in America in Syosset.  The next day, they will proceed to the Monastery of The Dormition of the Mother of God in Rives Junction, Michigan, to join the rest of the hierarchs and begin their informal talks.  On Thursday, they will travel to Washington DC where they will be welcomed at several locations and meet with various government officials and Ambassadors from the countries where the European hierarchs have their jurisdictions.

On Saturday, the hierarchs will tour Romanian Orthodox parishes in the Detroit area and celebrate Great Vespers at Holy Trinity Church in Troy.

Sunday morning, the hierarchs will celebrate the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy at Saint George Cathedral in Southfield, then return to the monastery in Rives Junction for the remainder of their visit.

Hierarchs participating in the conference will be: His Eminence, Archbishop NATHANIEL (Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America); His Eminence, Metropolitan SERAFIM (Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Germany & Central Europe); His Eminence, Metropolitan IOSIF (Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Western & Southern Europe); His Eminence, Archbishop NICOLAE (Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in America & Canada); His Grace, Bishop SILUAN (Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Western & Southern Europe); His Grace, Bishop IRINEU (Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America); and His Grace, Bishop SOFIAN (Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Germany & Central Europe).
