Dearborn Heights MI [ROEA Chancery]    The Very Reverend Father John Surducan, priest emeritus of Saints Peter & Paul Church in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, 22 January 2007, following a recent decline in health.  Father John just observed his 92nd birthday on Wednesday, January 17.

Father Surducan's body will lie in state in Saints Peter & Paul Church, the church built under his pastorate.  The Saracusta services will be held on Wednesday, 24 January and Thursday, 25 January at 7:30pm.  The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, 26 January at 9:00am, and will be followed by the Funeral Service for the Burial of a Priest at 10:30am.  He will then be taken to be laid to rest next to his wife, Preoteasa Elena (deceased in 1997), at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit, and a Pomana (Memorial Luncheon) will follow in the parish hall.

Father John was parish priest at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Dearborn/Dearborn Heights, Michigan for 25 years, and remained there in retirement another 27 years.  It was during his pastorate that the parish built the current church and adjacent facilities in 1975.  He was also a strong supporter of The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, serving in many capacities over the years.
